Check your Locks

Security features your home must have to be covered

Please refer to your policy schedule which will advise you if your home needs to meet minimum security standards. If you do, please follow the steps contained in this leaflet.

Use this guide to check that the security features on your home are valid for your policy. If your home currently falls short, don’t worry – we give you 45 days from the start of your policy to complete any necessary work. If you don’t ensure your home is properly protected, it could affect any claim you make. Please call us on 0800 056 3040 if you are unsure about anything.

01 Your main entrance door

A 5-lever mortice deadlock or a key-operated multipoint locking system must be used to secure the main Entrance door. The lock must be able to be operated from both the inside and outside.

06 Your windows

Windows and skylights which open and are accessible from the ground without a ladder, or from adjoining roofs, porches or down pipes, require keyoperated window locking devices – including key-operated multipoint locking systems. In addition to meeting all these conditions you need to ensure that all your locks are secured when no-one is home, taking care to remove all keys from locks and storing out of sight. Please note that although windows in occupied bedrooms do not need to be locked, all other locks in your property should be secured at night and keys removed from the locks.
